Kelowna business owner urges more action after third break-in

Kelowna break-ins: a downtown salon owner calls for tougher action after 3 hits See how city leaders plan to boost patrols, security and support for businesses

A downtown Kelowna business owner is calling for stronger action after her shop was broken into for the third time this week. Wendy Munyanyi, who owns MaryClaris Hair Extensions and Beauty Products, said three wigs valued at about $900 were taken in the latest incident on Tuesday morning. The breakin left a shattered window, and a witness nearby said he heard the alarm, saw the damage, and confronted the suspect before she fled. Police were called, but the store had already been hit. City officials say Kelowna has already added measures such as a CCTV registry to help RCMP investigations and a security grant program after a public safety forum earlier this year. Mayor Tom Dyas said the city has increased downtown patrols and will keep pushing for more support from higher levels of government. Councillor and mayoral candidate Ron Cannan said more local partnerships and secondstage sober housing could also help address the problem.
