UK FCA issues crypto authorization guidance ahead of September window
FCA crypto authorization guidance maps new UK rules for stablecoins, custody and staking Firms can check permissions now before 2027 deadlines and avoid regulatory surprises
The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has published final guidance on when cryptorelated activities will need authorization under the country’s upcoming regulatory framework.
The guidance covers areas including stablecoin issuance, crypto trading platforms, transaction handling, custody, and staking services. It is meant to help firms assess whether they fall within the FCA’s regulatory perimeter and what permissions they may need before the new rules take effect.
The FCA said existing registrations will not automatically carry over, so firms must review whether they need authorization or a change in permission. Applications will open on Sept. 30, with a Feb. 28, 2027 deadline for transitional arrangements ahead of the regime’s full start on Oct. 25, 2027.
