Kane Carter has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 17 years after being found guilty of seconddegree murder in a 2018 Vancouver shooting.
The case involved the death of 15yearold Alfred Wong, who was killed when he was struck by a stray bullet while riding in his parents’ car after dinner in January 2018. Another bystander was also injured in the incident.
Carter was convicted in December after a trial that included dozens of witnesses and more than 100 exhibits. The Crown had sought a longer parole ineligibility period, while the defence asked for a shorter one. Carter’s earlier trial ended in a mistrial after jurors could not reach a verdict.
