Jack Reed wins Rhode Island Democratic primary and seeks sixth term

Jack Reed wins Rhode Island primary, keeping his Democratic Senate nomination See how the longtime senator beat two progressive challengers before November

Rhode Island Sen. Jack Reed defeated two progressive challengers in the Democratic primary, keeping the party nomination he has held for more than 30 years. Reed will now face Republican Ray McKay and independent Michael Bahry in the November general election. The senator, first elected in 1996, is seeking a sixth term and remains a senior figure in the Senate, serving on several key committees including Armed Services, Appropriations, Banking and Intelligence. The primary highlighted a split between Reed’s more moderate record and the policy positions of his challengers, who campaigned on issues such as abolishing ICE, taxing wealth and ending aid to Israel. Campaign finance records showed Reed entered the race with a large cash advantage over his opponents.
