Waymo and Uber end robotaxi pilot in Phoenix

Waymo and Uber have ended their robotaxi pilot in Phoenix, Arizona, according to the companies. The program was a limited test that used just over a dozen Waymo vehicles and helped Uber expand its autonomous ride service in other cities. Uber said the Phoenix pilot was its first collaboration with Waymo and that the lessons learned there supported larger deployments in Austin and Atlanta, where Waymo rides are available exclusively through Uber. Waymo said the partnership was productive and helped set the stage for future expansion. The Waymo vehicles used in Phoenix will stay in service, but they will now be used for autonomous deliveries through DoorDash instead of passenger rides. Uber said it plans to work with another autonomous vehicle company in Phoenix, but it did not name the partner.
