President Donald Trump reportedly wants Bill Pulte, the incoming acting director of national intelligence, to begin firing a large number of employees in the DNI office, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The DNI office oversees 18 U.S. intelligence agencies, including the CIA and the National Security Agency. Trump has said the office is too large and suggested it should be smaller, while also indicating that his eventual permanent nominee should continue the downsizing effort.
Pulte, who currently leads the Federal Housing Finance Agency, has no intelligence background and is serving in the DNI role on an acting basis after Tulsi Gabbard stepped down. Trump said he is interviewing candidates for the permanent job.
