Truck driver expected to receive 6-year sentence in fatal Montreal South Shore pileup
Montreal truck crash sentence after deadly Highway 30 pileup Guilty plea follows two deaths; see why prosecutors seek six years
A truck driver who caused a deadly 2022 pileup on Montreal’s South Shore is expected to receive a sixyear prison sentence after pleading guilty to dangerous driving causing death.
The crash happened on Highway 30 near Longueuil’s SaintHubert borough when the driver, Baljeet Singh, was reportedly playing an online game on his cellphone as he approached a construction zone. His semitrailer struck several vehicles, killing Nancy Lefrançois, 42, and her 11yearold son, Loïc, and injuring 10 others.
Singh was later arrested in California in 2025 after leaving Quebec and moving through Toronto, India, and the United States. The sentence recommendation was jointly proposed by the prosecution and defence after victims’ relatives addressed the court.
