Ethereum and Base diverge on wallet standards

Account abstraction standards split as Ethereum and Base pursue separate paths Wallets may need multi-format support as each network prioritizes different goals

Ethereum and Base will move forward with different account abstraction standards after efforts to agree on a shared approach fell apart last week, according to Ethlabs researcher Derek Chiang. Chiang said the breakdown reflects shifting priorities between the two networks. Ethereum is advancing Frame Transactions under EIP8141 as part of its Hegotá upgrade, while Base is developing native account abstraction through Keystore under EIP8130. The split could mean wallet developers need to support multiple transaction formats to maintain a consistent user experience across networks. Chiang said the separation may also give both ecosystems more room to innovate based on their own goals, with Ethereum emphasizing security and censorship resistance and Base focusing more on scalability.
