Habsburg Jewels in Quebec City reveal a royal treasure with Nazi-era history See the hidden family gems and discover Zita’s remarkable exile story
A Quebec City museum is presenting the Habsburg Jewels, a family collection with ties to the last Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary, Zita of BourbonParma.
According to the CBC Radio segment, Zita fled to Quebec City in 1940 with her eight children to escape Nazi forces and brought a suitcase containing precious gemstones. The jewels were kept in a hidden location until 2025, when they were taken out for display.
Museum director JeanLuc Murray discussed the exhibition and its significance for Quebec City and the Habsburg family.
