Toronto Maple Leafs sign Nick Blankenburg to strengthen their blue line depth See how the one-year deal adds proven NHL experience before opening night

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed defenceman Nick Blankenburg to a oneyear contract, adding depth to their blue line ahead of the new NHL season. The team announced the move on Sunday but did not disclose the financial terms. Blankenburg, 28, had joined Toronto's training camp on a professional tryout agreement. Last season, the Washington, Michigan native split time between the Nashville Predators and Colorado Avalanche, finishing with career highs of eight goals and 16 assists in 61 games. He previously spent three seasons with the Columbus Blue Jackets before signing with Nashville in 2024. Toronto opens the regular season on Tuesday at home against the Montreal Canadiens.
