A Canadawide arrest warrant has been issued for Calgary businessman Wentao Yang after he did not appear in court on taxevasion charges linked to the Panama Papers investigation.
The Canada Revenue Agency says Yang is facing nine charges, including filing false tax returns, tax evasion and fraud. Prosecutors allege he failed to report consulting income from oil deal work and used offshore transfers to obscure the source of funds.
Yang was the first person in Canada to be charged in connection with the Panama Papers leak. The case stems from a longrunning CRA investigation that began after the 2016 leak exposed offshore financial records and led investigators to Yang's business interests and foreign companies.
