OpenAI launches Data agent in ChatGPT Work

OpenAI Data agent analyzes company data in ChatGPT Work with plain-English questions Connect approved sources, build dashboards, and share insights faster

OpenAI has introduced a new Data agent in ChatGPT Work designed to help employees analyze company data through naturallanguage questions. The tool can connect to approved data sources, examine what changed, and generate interactive dashboards without requiring users to write queries or use a separate analytics product. The company says the agent works with sources including Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, Databricks, Snowflake, MongoDB, ClickHouse, Datadog, and others, as well as files from Google Drive and SharePoint. It also uses business definitions, metric logic, and semantic layers from trusted systems to interpret results more accurately. OpenAI says enterprise administrators control which connections are available and who can use them, with existing permissions enforced at the table, row, and column levels. The agent can also help users refine analysis, share findings, and pass approved actions to connected tools such as Slack or email. OpenAI says it has already used the system internally and that several companies in its alpha program are testing it for reporting, dashboard creation, and operational analysis.
