Altman calls for US-led AI safety forum and government stake

Altman compared the idea to international or sectorbased oversight models such as the IAEA, aviation, and banking rules. The report also says OpenAI has discussed the possibility of giving the U.S. government a 5% stake in the company, alongside plans for a dividend fund that could redistribute some of the industry’s gains. Altman framed the broader point as one of democratic accountability, saying elected representatives should set the rules for AI.
