4 dead, 4 injured in Calgary Stoney Trail crash

Calgary police say four people were killed and four others were injured in a crash on Stoney Trail late Sunday night. Police said a MercedesBenz was travelling south in the northbound lanes near 90th Avenue S.W. around 11 p.m. and collided headon with a Subaru. A Chevrolet then struck the Mercedes after the first impact. Investigators say the Mercedes caught fire after the collision. The driver and two passengers in that vehicle, along with the Subaru driver, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet and three youth passengers were taken to hospital, and one person suffered serious but nonlifethreatening injuries. Police say impairment and excessive speed are being considered as possible factors, and the investigation is ongoing.
