Police to escort all World Cup teams in Toronto
Toronto World Cup motorcade escorts will move teams safely through the city Plan ahead for match days as police coordinate traffic and crowd control
Toronto police will provide motorcade escorts for all nine international teams scheduled to play in the city during the World Cup, along with some visiting officials.
Officers from Toronto police, Peel Regional Police, York Regional Police, the Ontario Provincial Police and the RCMP will take part in the escorts. Police said the measure is intended to help move team buses safely and efficiently while reducing the impact of large crowds around the vehicles.
Toronto is set to host six World Cup matches between June 12 and July 2, including one knockout game. The number of teams playing in the city could rise to 11 after the Round of 32 draw. The first match in Toronto is Canada against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday.
