Toronto Public Health is investigating a mumps outbreak linked to a downtown office, where four confirmed cases have been reported among workers in nonpublicfacing roles. Dr. Shima Shakory, associate medical officer of health, said the risk to the broader community is low because there was no direct public exposure. The city said mumps is a rare viral infection in Canada that can cause swelling in the cheeks and jaw, along with fever, headache, fatigue, muscle pain and loss of appetite. Health officials are advising residents to check their vaccination records and make sure routine immunizations are up to date. People who feel unwell are being asked to stay home and avoid contact with others to help prevent further spread.
