B.C. Ferries cancels multiple Nanaimo-Vancouver sailings due to mechanical issue
B.C. Ferries cancellations hit Nanaimo–Vancouver sailings after engine trouble Check today’s affected departures, backup options and possible Wednesday delays
B.C. Ferries has cancelled about half of Tuesday’s sailings between Nanaimo’s Departure Bay and Vancouver’s Horseshoe Bay after one of its vessels developed a mechanical problem.
The service said the issue began Monday evening on the Queen of Cowichan, with problems linked to the ship’s main engine turbocharger. Engineering teams are now assessing the repairs and how long they may take, and Wednesday sailings could also be affected.
Cancellations included several morning, afternoon, and evening departures in both directions. B.C. Ferries said the Queen of Oak Bay will continue operating the remaining sailings on the route, while some passengers can also use other scheduled service or two extra evening sailings added between Departure Bay and Tsawwassen. The company warned that space will be limited and suggested travelers consider footpassenger travel or alternate routes.
