Four people were rescued and one was in critical condition after a charter boat sank in British Columbia's Georgia Strait on Sunday, while six others were still missing as search crews continued operations into the evening.
Authorities said the boat began taking on water near Roberts Bank, southwest of Vancouver International Airport, around 11:45 a.m. PT. A sailing couple nearby spotted people in the water and called a mayday, helping guide rescue crews to the scene.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, the Canadian Coast Guard, RCMP aircraft and vessels, and several ferries and civilian boats all took part in the search. Officials said the cause of the sinking was still unknown and under investigation.
