Scarborough apartment fire kills one as Toronto crews investigate the blaze See what officials said about the cause, damage and when residents can return
One person died after a fire broke out Tuesday morning in an apartment building in Scarborough, Toronto paramedics said.
Police said they were called to the building near Neilson Road and McLevin Avenue around 7:45 a.m. Fire crews later said the blaze had been extinguished, but they remained on scene as investigators worked to determine what happened.
Deputy Fire Chief Paul Fitzgerald said there were no suspicious circumstances and that the fire began in a unit on the 16th floor. Toronto police confirmed the person who died was an adult. Officials said no other units were damaged and residents would be allowed back into the building during the day.
