Trump recommends Lindsey Graham’s sister for interim Senate seat

Lindsey Graham Senate seat: Trump backs Darline Graham Nordone for interim role South Carolina awaits McMaster’s pick as Republicans gear up for a special election

President Donald Trump said he wants South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster to appoint Darline Graham Nordone, the sister of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, to temporarily fill Graham’s Senate seat through the end of the year. Lindsey Graham died Saturday after aortic dissection, according to preliminary findings released by his office. McMaster is expected to announce his choice at a Monday afternoon news conference, and South Carolina law gives him the authority to name an interim replacement. The appointment comes as Republicans prepare for a special election to decide who will serve the remainder of Graham’s term. A special primary is scheduled for Aug. 11, and several state and federal lawmakers have already indicated interest in running for the seat.
