Parks Canada urges delays on B.C.'s West Coast Trail after heavy rain

Parks Canada is asking visitors to delay or cancel plans to hike Vancouver Island’s West Coast Trail after heavy rain made parts of the route impassable. The agency said creeks and rivers are running high, with more rain expected through Wednesday. It is responding to multiple evacuation requests and says conditions are currently unsafe for crossing waterways on foot. The West Coast Trail, a 75kilometre backpacking route in Pacific Rim National Park, is known for difficult terrain, ladder systems, mud, and fastmoving rivers. Parks Canada said people with reservations who postpone their trip can use them later when conditions improve, and those booked between July 27 and Aug. 1 can cancel for a full refund.
