Toronto police issue more than 300 tickets and warnings in e-bike and scooter crackdown
Toronto micromobility enforcement curbs unsafe e-bike and e-scooter use See how 324 tickets and warnings aimed to improve safety on busy streets
Toronto police say they issued 324 tickets and warnings during a twoweek enforcement campaign focused on ebikes, escooters and other micromobility devices. The campaign ran from Aug. 10 to Aug. 24, and police said the total may rise as handwritten tickets are processed.
The initiative was aimed at unsafe or illegal use, including sidewalk riding, wrongway riding in cycle tracks, improper emoped use and parking in bike lanes. Police also said they issued 1,277 parking tickets to vehicles blocking bike lanes during the same period.
Police said the effort was meant to improve road safety and reduce collisions involving vulnerable road users. Toronto has recorded 514 collisions involving micromobility devices this year as of Aug. 10, including two fatal escooter crashes.
Cycle Toronto advocate Michael Longfield welcomed enforcement against vehicles parked in bike lanes, but said broader road safety concerns should also focus on motor vehicles, which pose a greater overall risk.
