Quebec bar to hold summit on trust in institutions ahead of election

Quebec bar association summit in Montreal tackles declining trust in institutions Join Sept. 8-9 talks with political leaders on rebuilding confidence and democracy

Quebec’s bar association will host a summit in Montreal in September focused on declining public trust in institutions. The event is set for Sept. 89 and will take place during Quebec’s provincial election campaign, which leads up to the Oct. 5 vote. Political candidates are expected to take part in discussions about how to strengthen confidence in government, the courts and the media. Bar head MarcelOlivier Nadeau said trust in institutions is important to democracy. The summit is expected to bring together about 750 people from legal, political, business, academic and community groups. A recent Léger poll found 43 per cent of Quebecers said their trust in public institutions has fallen in recent years.
