AMD to invest up to $5 billion in Anthropic in AI infrastructure deal

AMD has agreed to invest up to $5 billion in Anthropic as part of a broader infrastructure deal tied to largescale AI compute deployments. Under the agreement, Anthropic plans to use up to two gigawatts of AMDbased capacity, starting with the first gigawatt in the first half of 2027. The investment is linked to deployment milestones, but the companies have not disclosed the exact terms or whether the funds will directly pay for the systems. The deal adds to a growing pattern in the AI chip market, where hardware suppliers pair major supply agreements with financial incentives or equity arrangements. AMD said the collaboration will center on its Instinct MI450 accelerators and Helios rackscale systems, alongside EPYC processors, networking, and ROCm software. AMD shares rose after the announcement.
