JetBlue expands its Fort Lauderdale hub

JetBlue Fort Lauderdale expansion boosts flights, capacity, and international reach See how the airline aims to rival Miami and grow its South Florida hub

JetBlue Airways is increasing its presence at Fort LauderdaleHollywood International Airport as it works to strengthen its network and improve profitability. The airline is already the airport’s largest carrier and has added more flights and capacity this year, especially after Spirit Airlines’ collapse left more room in the market. The company now plans to average about 150 daily flights at Fort Lauderdale during peak winter travel periods, bringing the airport closer in importance to JetBlue’s Boston hub. The airline also expects to expand international service from Fort Lauderdale and is considering a lounge there to serve premium customers. JetBlue’s growth in Fort Lauderdale comes as it competes with Miami International Airport, where American Airlines remains dominant. Both airports serve travelers heading to Latin America and the Caribbean, but JetBlue says it sees room to grow Fort Lauderdale’s role as a larger gateway.
