Lytton residents face wildfire alerts as crews work to protect homes

Residents of Lytton, B.C., are once again dealing with evacuation alerts and orders as the Saw Creek wildfire burns near the community south of the village. Crews say the fire has grown, but it has also moved away from some homes, allowing officials to lift orders for more than 40 properties. The ThompsonNicola Regional District says about 15 properties remain under evacuation order and more than 200 are under evacuation alert. Highway 1 is still closed between Boston Bar and Spences Bridge, and a regional state of emergency remains in effect. B.C. Wildfire Service says lighter winds have helped firefighters attack the blaze from both sides of the highway. Officials warn that hotter, drier weather and shifting winds could change fire behavior in the coming days. The fire is believed to be humancaused.
