St. Mary's Hospital ER renovation expands Montreal emergency care capacity $16.3M upgrade adds exam rooms and aims to cut wait times—see what's changing

St. Mary’s Hospital in Montreal has started a $16.3 million renovation of its emergency room to expand and modernize the space. The project, launched Wednesday in the CôtedesNeiges–NotreDamedeGrâce borough, aims to add more exam rooms and increase the capacity of the ambulatory bay. Hospital officials said the upgrades are intended to ease longstanding overcrowding that has contributed to longer waits for patients. Dr. Sujith Sivaraman said the goal is to create a more efficient layout so patients can be seen faster, while regional health authority president Dan Gabay said the work is also part of planning for future population growth in the area. The renovation is being funded entirely by the St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation through donations. Officials said the project is expected to continue until 2030, and emergency care services will remain available during construction.
