April McClain Delaney defeats David Trone in Maryland primary

Rep. April McClain Delaney defeated former Rep. David Trone in a costly Democratic primary for a House seat in western Maryland, according to The Associated Press. The race drew more than $32 million in spending, with Trone putting over $25 million of his own money into the campaign and Delaney contributing at least $7 million. The contest was one of the most expensive primaries of the 2026 election cycle. Trone, founder of Total Wine & More, had previously represented the district and later financed a failed 2024 Senate run. Delaney, who served in the Biden administration before entering Congress, won support from much of Maryland’s Democratic establishment, including Gov. Wes Moore, Sens. Chris Van Hollen and Angela Alsobrooks, and former House leaders Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer.
