Rogers MLSE takeover gives the telecom giant full control of Toronto sports See what the $4.35B deal means for the Leafs, Raptors and Rogers Sports
Rogers Communications says it has completed its purchase of the remaining 25% stake in Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment from Larry Tanenbaum’s Kilmer Sports Inc., making Rogers the sole owner of the company.
The $4.35 billion deal gives Rogers full control of MLSE, which owns the Maple Leafs, Raptors, Toronto FC and Argonauts. Rogers said it plans to form a new business unit called Rogers Sports to include those teams along with its existing sports, media and entertainment assets.
The company also said Keith Pelley will continue as president and CEO of MLSE and take on added responsibilities for Rogers Sports, while Mark Shapiro will remain president and CEO of the Blue Jays. Rogers has said it expects to sell minority stakes in parts of the portfolio by the first half of 2027 to help reduce debt.
