Gausman hopes not to leave Toronto after rough loss

Kevin Gausman said he hopes his latest outing at Rogers Centre will not be remembered as his final home start with the Toronto Blue Jays. Toronto lost 122 to the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night, adding to a difficult stretch as the Aug. 3 MLB trade deadline approaches. Gausman gave up five runs, four earned, over 3 1/3 innings and said the team is aware of the deadline uncertainty, but is focused on the next game. The 35yearold righthander has struggled this season, though he has been a dependable part of Toronto's rotation in recent years. The Blue Jays, now 4655 and fifth in the American League East, have lost three straight and are six games out of a wildcard spot. Manager John Schneider said the team was frustrated by another lopsided defeat as Toronto continues to battle inconsistency on offense and defense.
