Texas AG announces statewide distribution of 7 million free eggs

Texas egg distribution to food banks delivers relief after price-fixing settlements See where millions of free eggs are headed and what it could mean for families

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said more than 1.7 million free eggs have already been delivered to food banks across Texas, with another 5.3 million expected in the coming weeks. The egg distribution is part of an antitrust settlement involving CalMaine Foods, Centrum/Versova and Hickman's Egg Ranch. The agreements resolved claims that the companies worked together to raise egg prices between 2022 and 2025. Under the settlements, the companies will also pay a combined $3.3 million to participating states. Feeding Texas is coordinating the effort with 17 food banks across the state. The largest share is set to go to the Houston Food Bank, followed by food banks in North Texas and Tarrant County. Officials have not yet said when individual food banks will begin handing out the eggs or whether any local eligibility rules will apply.
