Stolen stop signs raise safety concerns in Ontario township

Police and fire officials in OtonabeeSouth Monaghan Township, near Peterborough, Ontario, are warning residents about a series of stolen road signs that could put drivers and emergency crews at risk. The township says missing street name and 911 address signs are making it harder for first responders to find homes quickly in an emergency. Authorities also reported that three stop signs were removed from two rural intersections along Base Line. Police said the thefts left drivers without important warnings at crossings where vehicles can travel at high speeds. Township fire officials added that replacing the signs creates extra costs for taxpayers, and asked residents to report missing signs or anyone seen tampering with road infrastructure.
