A driver in his 20s who fled after refusing a drunkdriving checkpoint in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, died after colliding with a highway bus. It has also been confirmed that a female passenger in her 20s who was riding with him died.
According to the Pyeongtaek Police Station on the 6th, the accident occurred at around 8:51 p.m. the previous day at an intersection in Hapjeongdong, Pyeongtaek. A highway bus turning left toward Anseong IC on the Gyeongbu Expressway and a Tesla sedan driving straight from the opposite direction collided.
Police believe the driver, Mr. A, caused the accident while fleeing after refusing a stop order at a drunkdriving checkpoint that was underway about 2.7 km before the crash site. They are also investigating the possibility that he was speeding in a 50 km/h speedlimit zone. Six people, including the bus driver and passengers, were injured, but their injuries are not believed to be lifethreatening.
