The Seoul Bankruptcy Court has decided to abolish Homeplus's rehabilitation proceedings. The court said it was ultimately unable to secure 200 billion won in emergency operating funds and determined that the liquidation value was greater than the goingconcern value.
With this decision, Homeplus will not go bankrupt immediately, but once the decision is finalized, courtordered bankruptcy proceedings or a creditor's bankruptcy petition process could follow. The dispute over responsibility among Homeplus, its majority shareholder MBK Partners, and its largest creditor Meritz Financial Group has also dragged on.
