U.S. soccer legends say, “Son Heung-min urgently needs to regain his scoring touch,” naming him the key to LAFC’s rebound
Son Heung-min’s LAFC slump: Donovan and Howard point to regaining his scoring touch as the key to a turnaround A decisive strike to change the momentum ahead of the San Jose match—see LAFC’s solution now
U.S. soccer legends Landon Donovan and Tim Howard have diagnosed LAFC's recent slump as requiring Son Heungmin to regain his scoring touch.
LAFC will play an away match against San Jose in Round 27 of MLS on the 20th in Korean time. They recently snapped a winless streak by beating the New York Red Bulls, but were unable to keep the momentum going after losing 13 to Sporting Kansas City in the following match.
Son Heungmin has recorded 5 goals and 17 goal contributions in MLS this season, and has also added 2 goals and 7 assists in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. However, he has not scored in his last two matches, and even after playing the full 90 minutes against Kansas City, he was unable to find the net.
Howard and Donovan said on their podcast that even with Son Heungmin and Denis Bouanga playing together, the team's attacking output is still not enough, and that Son Heungmin needs to show his scoring ability again for LAFC to bounce back. The two emphasized that Son Heungmin's performance is crucial for the team to move forward.
