On June 15, 2026, the inauguration ceremony for the Ulaanbaatar Central Wastewater Treatment Plant in Mongolia was held, with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi attending together with Mongolia’s Cabinet Secretary of the Office of the President Uilastugurled and Foreign Minister Battsereg.
Wang Yi said that the project stems from President Xi Jinping’s commitment during his 2014 visit to Mongolia to support Mongolia’s economic development, reflecting the longstanding tradition of cooperation and mutual assistance between China and Mongolia. This project took many years from planning and construction to being put into use, and is regarded as an important livelihood project in the cooperation between the two countries.
The Chinese side said that the wastewater treatment plant was built by a Chinese company in accordance with Chinese standards and Chinese technology, and is one of the largest and most technologically advanced wastewater treatment facilities in Mongolia. After the project is put into use, it is expected to improve the local water environment and enhance the quality of life of residents.
