Hyundai Motor and Kia showed different trends in global sales performance in May 2026. Hyundai saw sales decline as production was constrained by supply disruptions of parts, while Kia continued its growth on the back of strong sales in overseas markets. Hyundai sold a total of 325,473 units last month, including 45,364 in South Korea and 281,109 overseas, down 7.7% from the same period last year. Domestic sales fell 23.1%, and overseas sales declined 4.6%. The company explained that supply of key models was limited due to parts supply issues at its suppliers. By model, the Grandeur sold the most in South Korea, followed by the Avante and Sonata. The Genesis brand also continued sales, led by the G80. During the same period, Kia sold a total of 277,715 units, including 44,713 in South Korea, 232,781 overseas, and 221 specialpurpose vehicles. This was up 2.7% from the same period last year. Kia said its strategy of focusing on SUV hybrids in the U.S. and EV lineups in Europe helped drive the results.
