At the 6th International Conference on the Protection and Utilization of Black Soil and the Annual Meeting of the FAO International Black Soil Alliance, held in Changchun, Jilin, more than 300 Chinese and foreign experts, scholars, and industry representatives discussed the healthy cultivation of black soil, production capacity improvement, smart agriculture, and the construction of ecological barriers.
The report said that since the Chinese Academy of Sciences launched the "Black Soil Grain Bin" science and technology campaign in 2021, Northeast China’s black soil has made multiple advances in areas such as degradation control, soil fertility improvement, ecological restoration, and sustainable utilization. The relevant project teams also established a "single map" of the baseline and dynamic changes of black soil resources in Northeast China to monitor soil degradation and provide data support for agricultural production.
The conference also noted that places such as Da'an in Jilin, Jiansanjiang in Heilongjiang, and Changtu in Liaoning have promoted different governance models according to local conditions, and conservation tillage technologies such as straw return to the field and notill seeding have also been promoted in many areas. Experts at the meeting said these practices have formed typical models that can be replicated and promoted, and through talent exchange activities, they further advance the connection between scientific research, industry, and talent.
