Prime Minister Kim Minseok announced on the 25th that the government has settled on a position to abolish prosecutors' supplementary investigative authority without exception.
At a press conference at the Government Complex Seoul, Prime Minister Kim explained that the basic principle of prosecution reform is the separation of investigation and prosecution, and that accordingly, the supplementary investigative authority should be abolished.
He also said that rather than submitting a separate legislative proposal to the National Assembly, the government would respect the Assembly's discussions and decisions. The government had been reviewing alternative institutional measures in the Prime Minister's Office Prosecution Reform Task Force, but this time it decided not to submit a government bill.
