President Lee accepts raising the issue of violations of political rights…emphasizes responsibility for incitement

President Lee Jaemyung, who is touring Europe, said on the 14th that he would accept concerns raised by the public over violations of voting rights related to the shortage of ballots in the June 3 local elections. Presiding over a senior aides' meeting via video conference from Rome, Italy, President Lee said that, regarding this matter, spreading claims such as election result manipulation and fueling confusion only obscures the real issue. He also stressed that acts of harm against police officers on the scene must be held accountable under the law and principles. He further stated that, if this incident is to be used as an opportunity to strengthen democracy and popular sovereignty, healthy criticism and constructive alternatives must be guaranteed together, and that a thorough and transparent factfinding process is necessary. He also requested cooperation with the National Assembly's parliamentary investigation and the joint investigation headquarters of the police and prosecution.
