Taiwanese Compatriots in Zhangzhou Build a Short Drama Base, Telling Stories of Both Sides of the Strait

Zhuang Hanru, a woman from Taiwan, has built a professional shortdrama filming base in Zhangzhou, Fujian, hoping to use microshort dramas to share the shared cultural and life stories of both sides of the Taiwan Strait with more people. The base covers an area of about 2,500 square meters and features a variety of modern drama shooting settings, such as a supermarket, café, hospital, and office. It is Zhangzhou’s first professional shortdrama filming base. Zhuang Hanru moved to the mainland in 2002 to pursue her career, chose to develop the media industry in Zhangzhou in 2023, and began construction of the studio site last year. She said that Zhangzhou and Taiwan have deeprooted ties in food, folk customs, and culture, making them well suited for exploring topics with shared origins across the Strait. The crossStrait heartwarming comedy short drama "Mian Mian Ju Dao 101," which she wrote and produced, is about to go online. The work centers on beef noodle soup and a story about searching for relatives, while also incorporating elements such as glove puppetry, Minnan ballads, and local snacks. She also revealed that the base has already lined up dozens of actors, and in the future will continue developing more short dramas that blend Chinese cultural elements such as Baihequan, Gezai Opera, and traditional Chinese medicine.
