Ding Xuexiang Attends the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the New Three Gorges Waterway Project

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Three Gorges waterway project was held on the morning of the 8th in Yichang, Hubei. Ding Xuexiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, attended the ceremony and announced the official start of the project.
At the ceremony, responsible officials from China Three Gorges Corporation and Hubei Province delivered speeches in turn. At 10:12 a.m. that day, Ding Xuexiang announced the launch of the project, marking the entry of the project construction into the implementation phase.
According to the introduction, this project integrates functions such as water conservancy, shipping, and ecology, and is the largest comprehensive project on the main stream of the Yangtze River after the Three Gorges Project. Once completed, the Three Gorges hub and the Gezhouba hub will form a fourline lock layout, which is expected to improve the navigation capacity of the Yangtze River’s golden waterway and provide support for the highquality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
