The Basic Income Party has publicly come out in defense of the controversy surrounding Minister of Gender Equality and Family nominee Yong Hyein. New party leader Oh Junho said at the Supreme Council meeting on the 7th that the party would lend its support so that the Lee Jaemyung administration's gender equality policies can deliver results. Leader Oh rebutted claims that there is an unofficial shadow organization that actually runs the party, saying they were not true. He said the party would also consider legal action if certain political circles and the media keep repeating claims that undermine the party's democratic procedures. Also present at the Supreme Council meeting that day was Park Kihong, Yong's spouse and newly elected Supreme Council member, who serves as Deputy Minister of Strategy and Planning. The People Power Party raised suspicions of party privatization in response, but the party spokespersons denied the allegations, saying that Supreme Council member Park is an activist who has participated in the basic income movement for a long time. Nominee Yong said she would state her position at the confirmation hearing.
