The Guizhou Provincial Higher People's Court reported on June 5 that in 2025, courts across the province concluded 3,270 firstinstance cases of various environmental and resourcerelated types, up 1.8% from 2024. These cases covered criminal, civil, and administrative areas, and also included environmental public interest litigation and litigation for compensation for ecological and environmental damage, showing the continued strengthening of local environmental judicial protection.
The report said that Guizhou courts focused on key tasks such as ecological security, green development, and pollution prevention and control, comprehensively leveraging the roles of criminal punishment, civil relief, administrative supervision, and public interest litigation remediation to advance the development of the environmental and resource judicial protection system. In terms of green and lowcarbon development, the courts also concluded related cases involving carbon emissions trading and carbon sink subscriptions, and promoted an interprovincial judicial carbon sink cooperation mechanism.
In addition, Guizhou courts strengthened the protection of key ecological resources and distinctive natural environments by establishing judicial protection bases for biodiversity, judicial archives for ancient and notable trees, and judicial protection bases for karst cave ecology. Local courts stated that the next step will be to continue deepening reforms and innovation in environmental justice, providing ruleoflaw guarantees for ecological protection and highquality development in Guizhou.
