Minister of Climate, Energy and Environment Kim Sunghwan said that concerns about water shortages raised during the development of the Honam semiconductor industrial complex can be addressed by securing an additional supply of more than 1 million tons of water per day.
In a post on X on the 27th, Minister Kim explained that about 1.5 billion tons of water are stored in seven dams in the Yeongsan and Seomjin river basins, and that these dams can supply 3.37 million tons per day of water for household, industrial, agricultural, and river maintenance purposes.
Earlier the same day, President Lee Jaemyung also said on X that if water resources are properly allocated and managed, it would be possible to supply 1 million tons of industrial water per day. However, Minister Kim did not specify concrete measures for securing the additional supply, and drew a line by saying that there are differences from the government's review regarding the possibility of transferring water from other regions or desalinating seawater.
