In the first roundrobin primary to choose the next leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, candidate Kim Minseok took first place in the vote among party members with voting rights in the Chungcheong region. Kim received 45.05%, edging out candidate Jeong Cheongrae (44.61%) by 0.44 percentage points, while candidate Song Younggil recorded 10.34%.
This vote was held from July 28 to 31 in South Chungcheong, North Chungcheong, Daejeon, and Sejong, and the firstchoice vote share under the party leadership preference voting system was announced. By region, Kim was ahead in South Chungcheong and North Chungcheong, while Jeong was ahead in Daejeon and Sejong.
The results of the party leadership and supreme council member elections reflect 70% from the vote of party members with voting rights and 30% from a public opinion survey. The Democratic Party plans to continue the second roundrobin primary in Busan, Ulsan, and South Gyeongsang on the 2nd.
