The Ministry of Health and Welfare has finalized the median income standard for 2027. For a household of four, it was set at 6,929,885 won, up 6.7% from this year, marking the largest increase on record.
The median income standard is a key indicator used for eligibility criteria in the Basic Livelihood Security System and various welfare programs. For a oneperson household, it was set at 2,736,042 won, and the selection criteria for livelihood benefits, medical benefits, housing benefits, and education benefits were also finalized.
The ministry explained that, in this decision, it overhauled the calculation method for the first time in six years and reflected the latest economic indicators such as recent income trends, inflation, and GDP growth rate. However, civic groups pointed out that it did not sufficiently reflect actual prices and income conditions, and said improvements are needed.
