70s Woman Dies After Emergency Patient Acceptance Was Delayed Due to System Failure

It has been reported that a woman in her 70s died while a computer system failure at Jeju National University Hospital delayed the acceptance of emergency patients, and Jeju provincial health authorities have launched an investigation. According to the Jeju Fire and Safety Headquarters, on the 27th of last month, a woman in her 70s, identified as A, who showed symptoms of abdominal pain and overall weakness in Idodong, Jeju City, called 119, and paramedics relayed her patient information while transporting her to Jeju National University Hospital, where she usually received treatment. However, the response was delayed during the process of confirming with the hospital, and the hospital later stated that it was difficult to accept the patient due to a computer system failure. Ms. A, who was being transported, went into cardiac arrest while being moved to another hospital, and although paramedics performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, she ultimately died. Jeju National University Hospital explained that the computer error made basic patient identification and treatment difficult at the time, and the Jeju Emergency Medical Support Team is investigating whether the hospital's refusal to accept the patient and the operation of the emergency medical system were appropriate.
