Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD has set a global record by surpassing cumulative production of 17 million ecofriendly vehicles.
BYD Global announced on the 10th at a commemorative event held at its factory in Xi'an, China, that its cumulative ecofriendly vehicle production had exceeded 17 million units. Among global automakers, this is the first time one has reached 17 million ecofriendly vehicle units in production.
BYD explained that its global sales in the first half of this year were 1,808,511 units. Of these, overseas sales of passenger cars and pickup trucks totaled 789,367 units, up 68% from the same period last year. In the domestic market as well, new registrations in the first half of the year came to 11,675 units, placing the company near the top of the imported car market.
The 17millionth vehicle produced was BYD's large sedan SEAL 08.
