DMZ landmine explosion incident, preparations for field investigation and safety inspections by the 25th Division underway Rapidly checking the response ahead of the JCS field investigation TF deployment, along with back-and-forth between the ruling and opposition parties

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Jin Youngseung visited the 25th Infantry Division, where an explosion suspected to have been caused by a landmine occurred in the DMZ on the western front on the 25th, and checked the preparation status for the onsite investigation. The JCS said the onsite investigation TF is checking safety measures, communications, and rehearsal drills ahead of the start of the investigation. Chairman Jin instructed them to conduct a thorough investigation while prioritizing the safety of service members. The joint onsite investigation TF, led by the Deputy Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is continuing its mission even during the Chuseok holiday, and the investigation team is expected to be deployed once preparations are complete. Since the accident, rain has fallen across most parts of the country, including Paju, Gyeonggi Province, raising concerns about landmines being washed away or the site being damaged. Meanwhile, the ruling and opposition parties continued their exchange of criticism over the timing and method of the investigation and the government's response, and the Democratic Party criticized that the safety of service members should not be used in political strife.
